This technical supplement has been written to amplify the recommendations given in section 4.7 of WHO Technical Report Series No. 961, 2011, Annex 9: Model guidance for the storage and transport of time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products.4 The purpose of a temperature mapping study is to document and control the temperature distribution within a storage area.
A mapping study establishes the temperature distribution within the zone being mapped and locates hot and cold spots.
A mapping operation requires a sufficient number of electronic data logging monitors (EDLMs) to ensure that the temperature distribution in the space to be mapped is adequately characterized.
The temperature distribution in the room may vary depending upon which system is running.11
